4Semaphore & Signal Flags

Find out about Semaphore signalling, create your own flags to send messages to each other. Then get to grips with the International Code of Signal Flags and try writing your name and short messages in signal flags.

Invisible Inks

Discuss why invisible inks may be useful and try out 3 types of invisible communication. Mix your own invisible ink and write a short message. Experiment with UV lights to look at luminescent dyes and solve the puzzle of how to read a note that is no longer there. Finally, develop your first invisible ink message with a secret ingredient.

Gallery Spy Trail

It is a Friday in October 1941 and a spy has been stealing secrets from the Priddys Hard Armament Depot! Work in small teams to hunt for clues, search lockers, check finger prints, interrogate a suspect (gently) and check the all-important paperwork. This begins with a short briefing from Mi5 at reception, then make your way around 5 evidence scenes, working through your spy trail notebooks. Once the activities have finished, your team will have time to discuss your solution and present your reasoning to whole group.

Morse Code Machine Making (shown in image above)

Find out why Morse code has always been such an important communication skill. Make your own Morse code machines to try out and take home, using a simple lamp circuit and a clothes peg.

Multi- Museum Packages

Why not combine your group’s sleepover with a visit to either the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, the National Museum of the Royal Navy (Portsmouth) & HMS Victory or The Royal Marines Museum before or after your visit to Explosion.
